How nature nearby is estimated
We measure land cover in a straight, flat-ended corridor extending 500 m on each side of the line between stations A and B. Nature nearby is the percentage of its mapped area covered by forest, natural grassland, heathland, shrubland or wetlands. Urban areas, bare or sparsely vegetated ground, snow/ice and open water do not count as nature.
All matching pairs are ranked by their unrounded nature percentage before pagination. At least 95% of the corridor must have valid data; otherwise its score is unavailable and the pair appears after scored results. Co-located stations use a 1 km square neighbourhood.
Source: CORINE Land Cover 2018, release V2020_20u1, on its native 100 × 100 m grid. CORINE generally maps areas of at least 25 hectares and linear features at least 100 m wide. Small parks, hedgerows and narrow wooded strips may be omitted; 100 m pixels do not mean every 100 m feature is detected. Land cover may have changed since 2018.
This is not the percentage of an actual walk. Nature is measured in a straight corridor between A and B, not along the suggested walking path shown on the map. The suggested route uses mapped pedestrian data; we do not verify private land, closures, safe crossings, accessibility or current conditions. A route suggestion does not guarantee a safe or walkable trip.
